Drinks writer Jules van Cruysen has launched his second book project, Aotearoa Nouveau: Postmodern New Zealand Wine, on the crowd funding site Kickstarter.

Of the producers featured van Cruysen says, “The wines I will cover range from affordable everyday to phenomenally expensive but what links them is their pursuit of quality, their vision and their spirit of innovation.”
“They challenge the status quo of how and why wine is grown, made and sold. They are changing the world of wine.”
This latest Kickstarter campaign follows the success of his first project, BREWED: A Guide to the Craft Beer of New Zealand which raised over $20,000 in August of 2014 and was published by Potton and Burton (2015 NZ Publishers of the Year) in September 2015. BREWED is currently in its second print run.
Jules van Cruysen is co-owner of Hillside Kitchen & Cellar and The Ramen Shop restaurants in Wellington. He is a sommelier and drinks writer with over ten years’ experience writing for numerous publications and working in some of New Zealand’s best restaurants. In writing Aotearoa Nouveau he will be returning to his roots, the wine industry.
On why he is using Kickstarter, a crowd funding platform, van Cruysen says, “Writing such a detailed non-fiction book involves a significant commitment of time and money, traveling around the country interviewing grape growers, wine makers and the other people who help get wine into a bottle and out into the world.
Because of the limited market for books of this type I am coming directly to you, the people who grow it, the people who make it, the people who sell it and most importantly, the people who drink it.”
