Babydoll Pinot Gris by Yealands Named Champion Pinot Gris at Top Aromatic Wine Competition

Yealands Wine Group (Yealands) has been honoured with the “Champion Pinot Gris” Trophy at the 2016 New Zealand Aromatic Wine Competition for their 2016 Babydoll Pinot Gris. Alongside this outstanding trophy, Yealands received a total of seventeen medals, including three gold medals, two of which were awarded to their 2016 Clearwater Cove Sauvignon Blanc and 2016 The Crossings Sauvignon Blanc.

The New Zealand Aromatic Wine Competition (formerly known as the International Aromatic Wine Competition) was created fourteen years ago to “highlight to consumers the best aromatic wine varieties available in the New Zealand market for the wine drinker.”

Babydoll by Yealands takes its name from the rare breed of miniature Babydoll sheep introduced by Peter Yealands in 2009 to his Seaview Vineyard in Marlborough, the home of Yealands Estate, as an alternative to using diesel-powered tractors to mow between the vine rows.

“Our Babydoll wines have such a unique story behind them that captures how differently we do things on and around the vineyard,” says Yealands’ Chief Winemaker, Jeff Fyfe. “But more than that, these are great quality wines that people enjoy drinking. This award shows that sustainable winemaking and great tasting, top quality wines absolutely go hand in hand. I’m very happy with this trophy and delighted to see a gold medal for two of our popular Sauvignon Blancs as well.”
