Babydoll Wines are all about celebrating life’s little moments, like being awarded the Best Wine from New Zealand Trophy and a Green Award at the 2018 Cathay Pacific Hong Kong International Wine & Spirit Competition (HKIWSC), for their 2018 Babydoll Pinot Gris.
Each year, there are between one hundred to two hundred New Zealand wines entered into the HKIWSC, so it’s a truly special honour to be named as the Best Wine from New Zealand across all categories. This was the first year that wineries were also recognised with green awards for holding organic, biodynamic or sustainable certifications. Babydoll Wines, forming part of Yealands Wine Group (Yealands), are renowned for their sustainable approach to winemaking across the entire lifecycle of their wines.
Now in its 10th year, the HKIWSC prides itself in being one of the most influential guides to quality international wines and spirits in the Asian market. The judging panel consists of Asia’s top industry experts, including two Masters of Wine and one Master Distiller from Singapore, Hong Kong and the United Kingdom, as well as a Chief Winemaker and several Food and Beverage experts. The judging takes place over four days with all wines tasted blind. Samples are arranged by category and presented to judges in flights of tasting glasses, with the bottles hidden from sight to ensure the utmost integrity.
Babydoll Wines are named after a tiny sheep that can keep the winery’s premium Marlborough vineyards tidy year-round, because they’re too small to reach the grapes. Sustainable and vegan friendly, the wines are crafted to capture distinctive varietal characters and complexity.
“We’re so excited to receive the Best Wine from New Zealand Trophy for our 2018 Babydoll Pinot Gris,” says Natalie Christensen, Senior Winemaker. “After a fantastic harvest we had a feeling this Pinot Gris was going to be something special; really focused, with these amazing lifted aromatics and beautiful concentrated mouthfeel. Receiving the Green Award in addition to the trophy really sums up what our Babydoll Wines are all about- gorgeous, sustainably produced, premium wines from New Zealand.”
Babydoll Pinot Gris 2018 has a recommended retail price of $17.95 and is available nationwide from leading liquor retailers and grocery outlets, as well as the Yealands Estate Cellar Door at competitive prices with free delivery on cases of six or more.
