I was up in Marlborough recently and met with David Tyney, self proclaimed “Wine Wrestler” who along with Richard Green (Production Prophet) and Sam Wark (Marketing Machete) have developed the Viscosity wine brand producing Cirro Sauvignon Blanc and Cirro Pinot Noir.
After a busy day trying to work on my old desktop pc (my laptop hard drive decided to pack up – thank goodness for backup) and with a Friday fish and chip tea with two of my grandsons looming, so I thought time to taste the Cirro 2010 Marlborough Savvy…
It was bright and clean and had great depth of colour with hints of green / gold (no fining agents were used so less colour was stripped out I expect) I found it a little shy on the nose initially – was a bit cool but once it warmed up a bit opened up to goosberry and nettles, a little green stalkiness (is that a word?) rather than herbaceous aromas usually attributed to some Marlborough savvies.
There was passion fruit, citrus and granny smith apples on the palate and had a light body/weight but the really zingy acid left a mouth watering finish that lingered for a while and said “more please.” so I poured another one and as I expected the second glass was better…
If you like a lighter style savvy with “zing” get some of this. I rated the 2010 Cirro Savvy 17/20 or 85/100 – Silver
