Cult Wine is proud to announce their first art collaboration Pink Glass featuring the works of local artist Kate Leslie.
Kate is an artist from Perth, Western Australia. In 2016 Kate completed an artist in residence in America, en route home Kate decided to visit a friend in Wellington and fell in love with the city, she is now residing at The Moorings in Thorndon and working from her studio in Mt Victoria.
This body of work takes inspiration from Kate’s direct environment, she creates paintings that are a lush distortion of her surroundings.
Kate produces romanticized and often abstracted depictions of the familiar. her paintings draw from what she has been inspired by in Wellington, the colours in the sky, the town belt, friends at home, the botanics in the begonia House and botanical gardens.
“When we walked into the Cult Wine space for the first time, with its high stud and white walls we knew that as well as a tasting space it would be an amazing gallery space,” says wine director Jules van Costello, “this project with Kate Leslie sees the execution of this idea.”
The exhibition will see artwork paired or accompanied with natural wines from Si Vintners in Margaret River, a wine region close to Kate’s hometown.
The opening will be held on Thursday 6th July, 6 – 8pm and will run for a month at Cult Wine, 13 Murphy Street, Thorndon. The space will be open for viewing 11am – 6pm Wednesday to Friday and 11am – 4pm Saturdays.
We invite you to come and enjoy an evening of great wine and art.
