Travelling from CHCH to Marlborough and stopped in at the Pukeko Junction cafe in Leithfield for a coffee – next door is The Pukeko Junction Regional Wine Centre & Gallery that has quite a range of Waipara and other regional wines at very good prices.
Danny Schuster Sauvignon Blanc (07 vintage label shown)
There on the floor were a few remaining bottles of Danny Schuster’s 2008 Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc and with Friday being Sauvignon Blanc day I grabbed a bottle to try.
Well what a surprise – this 3 year old Savvy was lemon lime green in the glass with soft subtle herbal and tropical fruits in the nose, but still has a minerality and succulent fruit acid combination that left me wanting more…
BUT I was strong and kept half the bottle overnight until today when it had opened up even more and become more luscious – was under cork had a few “wine diamonds: attached, nice alcohol at 13.5% – I like aged Savvy, and even though this had no oak it has aged well. 86/100
