Iconic Waipara Stone Building Celebrates New Name

Iconic Waipara Stone Building Celebrates New Name

The iconic stone building 45 minutes north of Christchurch set amongst the vineyards, known as ‘The Mud House Winery and Café, has changed its name to ‘Waipara Hills’!

The name change is officially announced this week to coincide with The Christchurch Food Show, in which Waipara Hills are a proud sponsor of the Masterclass series. “This is a great opportunity for us to share our exciting news with our loyal customers and the general public at the Food Show,” says Jenny Anderson Waipara Hills Cellar Door and Café Manager. Jenny has been devoted to managing the cellar door for over ten years, “it is indeed an honour and a pleasure for our iconic building, which contains so much heart and soul, to become the home of Waipara Hills,” says Jenny.

For many years the well-known Waipara Hills brand has been established in the picturesque building. “The Waipara Hills winemaking team is based in Waipara, the wine is made in Waipara, it makes sense that the name has become Waipara Hills,” explains Jenny.

A ‘soft launch’ was held last month for over 170 friends, neighbours, valued customers and business partners of the cellar door and winery to show appreciation for all the support they have received over the past seven years. Waipara Hills Winemaker, Simon McGeorge, treated guests to the limited edition Waipara Hills Equinox range of wines, “lot of positive feedback came out of that evening; it was encouraging and really good to know we have the support of the locals. People appreciated being kept in the loop and enjoyed the opportunity to mingle with each other from the local community over canapés and wine,” says Simon.

As a result of the name change, those visiting Waipara Hills will be welcomed and provided with the usual professional and friendly service as there is no change in the management of staff.

Waipara Hills is only 45 minutes drive north of Christchurch on State Highway 1.  Specialising in aromatics, for which the Waipara Valley is well known; visitors can sample award winning Pinot Gris, Riesling, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay at the cellar door.  Enjoy fresh bistro style meals in the café which boasts stunning views across a charming courtyard to the vineyards.  Twice daily and premium pre-booked winery tours are also a great way to get first-hand knowledge of the vineyard and winery.

At Waipara Hills our winemaking philosophy is simple. It’s about allowing the characteristics of each season’s fruit to shine, creating perfect balance with as little interference as possible. The result is wine that’s rich, vibrant and bursting with complex flavour. For us every harvest signals the beginning of a new adventure, creating wine that’s distinctly from our place – a place where from contrast come beauty.

Waipara Hills Winemaker, Simon McGeorge, will be joining Ray McVinnie and other celebrity chefs at this year’s Masterclass Theatre at The Food Show in Christchurch. Simon will be matching Waipara Hills wines with culinary delights put together by celebrity chefs from around New Zealand.
