Jane Hunter has been recognised with the Bi-Annual Wolf Blass AM Award in Canberra, Australia for her contribution to wine, in particular Riesling.

Jane Hunter has been recognised for her contribution to wine with the Wolf Blass AM Award. Presented at the Canberra International Riesling Challenge award ceremony last Friday evening.

The award is presented biannually for a person or organisation in Australia or New Zealand who has made a major contribution to Riesling development and promotion.

Jane Hunter has been a driving force within the New Zealand wine industry since taking over Hunter’s Wines in 1987. Riesling has been a particular mainstay within the Hunter’s portfolio of wines and has received many top accolades over Jane’s years at the helm.

Jane Hunter commented on the award, “Wolf Blass has had a huge impact on the Australian and world wine industry and is highly regarded by his peers.”

“To be singled out as the recipient of the Wolf Blass AM Award for 2016 is an amazing honour and as the first New Zealander to achieve this is humbling. Riesling is a ‘silent’ star for Hunter’s amassing many medals and trophies over the past 30 years.”

Gold medals for Hunter’s Rieslings date back to 1986 with a gold medal at the Air New Zealand Wine Awards. Since then Hunter’s Rieslings have continued to receive top awards and trophies.

Most notably in 2011, Hunter’s trio of Rieslings, 2010, 2007 and 2004, won the inaugural Heritage Rose Bowl at the Royal Easter Show Wine Awards which is awarded for quality over numerous vintages.

Hunter’s Hukapapa™ Dessert Riesling 2014 was awarded an Elite Gold at the Canberra International Challenge 2016. A Riesling of recent success from Hunter’s, it has also won Gold at the New World Wine Awards 2016 and is currently available at New World supermarkets across New Zealand.
