Judy Finn Accepts Chairship of The Family of Twelve
In an extended family group every member brings a different and distinct set of experiences and skills to the family table. To this end The Family of Twelve rotate the role of chair to ensure it benefits from the full range of talent and experience available to it. On July the 19th, the chairship passes from Mr. William Hoare of Fromm Winery in Marlborough to Mrs. Judy Finn of Neudorf Vineyards in Nelson, the first woman to be elected to the position.
Judy Finn has been a driving force in the evolution of New Zealand’s quality wine industry and a true pioneer in Nelson. Outside of Neudorf Judy is passionate about the Nelson region having served on the Nelson Tasman Tourism Board and as a Trustee of the Suter Arts Gallery in Nelson. Judy also served as a director on the Board of Wellington’s highly successful Pinot Noir 2013, 2010 and 2007. Prior to this Judy’s journalism background saw her serve eight years on the board of Radio New Zealand Limited and four years on the board of Television NZ.
Outgoing chair, William Hoare brought a spirited passion and enthusiasm to the Family. Under his direction the Family has delivered ever impressive undertakings including the ‘Chardonnay Renaissance’ tastings in Auckland and Sydney, the inaugural ‘MW Family of Twelve Scholarship’ and a UK consumer program.
On accepting the chairship Judy praised William’s extraordinary work as chair and remarked that “The Family of 12 is a special group – 12 strong individual brands who work together promoting New Zealand and fine wine. We respect each other immensely and want the world to understand New Zealand does not just make good wine – it can make great wine, wine which stands alongside the best in the world.
The joy of being part of this group is the camaraderie, the viticultural and oenological intelligence and best of all, the sharing of a memorable story over a glass”.
