MEDIA RELEASE – 27 AUGUST 2014
Mud House Double Gold For Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc
Mud House receives double gold and three gold medals at China Wine and Spirits Awards 2014
Mud House has received a double gold medal for the 2013 Mud House Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc at the 2014 China Wine and Spirit Awards. Gold medals were awarded to the 2013 Mud House Estate Woolshed Vineyard Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc; 2013 Mud House Marlborough Pinot Gris and 2012 Mud House Estate Claim 431 Vineyard Central Otago Pinot Noir.
The two Mud House Sauvignon Blancs were bottled in Spring 2013 and have since continued to develop and evolve. Both wines were acknowledged shortly after bottling, notably the 2013 Mud House Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, which received the Cuisine Magazine No.1 Sauvignon Blanc and 5 stars last December.
Now, one year on, the wines are still receiving notable accolades, having come through their youthful enthusiasm and gracefully developing into a great glass of wine. Last month saw the Sauvignon Blancs each receive a gold medal at the Spiegelau International Wine Challenge.
Mud House Group Winemaker, Ben Glover is pleased the wines are showing well. “It is thrilling to get a double gold and a gold medal for both our two fantastic Sauvignon Blancs now they have had some bottle age. The time allows the true potential of our own Woolshed Vineyard to shine and the backbone and support it gives to both these stylistically different wines is evident.”
The Woolshed Vineyard, located in the Wairau Valley of Marlborough provides 50% of the fruit in the double gold winning Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, the remaining fruit hails from carefully selected grower parcels from the Awatere and lower Wairau Valleys.
Woolshed Vineyard Manager Nev Gane believes 2013 was one of the best seasons he has experienced in many years. “The 2013 growing season was certainly one to remember. The fantastic climate that Marlborough is known for – with long hot days and cool nights made not only for great hunting in the Richmond Ranges, but it was also fantastic for the grapes!”
End.
