New Venue for Nelson International Wine Symposium After Moutere Hills Fire
Organisers of the Nelson International Aromatics Symposium 2013 say the event will go ahead next weekend in spite of yesterday’s devastating fire at the Moutere Hills Community Centre, where the event was to be held.
The Symposium is one of the largest international events to be held at the Centre with over 100 delegates attending from around the world and New Zealand on February 1st and 2nd.
The Nelson Wineart event has been held at the Moutere Hills Community Centre since 2007 and organisers say it was the ideal venue to showcase premium Nelson wines and introduce wine lovers to international aromatic varieties.
Symposium Chairman Patrick Stowe, of Rimu Grove Winery, said the organising committee was devastated to hear the news of yesterday’s fire. Arrangements have been made to relocate the symposium to Seifried Estate’s Restaurant and Function Centre “Petite Fleur at Seifried Estate” nearby at Appleby.
“This fire has been a hiccup for us, but a real tragedy for the Moutere community. We have returned to that venue for all of our events because it is a spectacular location to showcase our wines and region to an international audience. We are all hopeful the centre can be rebuilt quickly and we will certainly be back there for our events in future,” he says.
Patrick Stowe said top international wine commentators and delegates from all over the world and New Zealand will be attending the two day event. He says they’d like to reassure those attending that the programme will run as planned at the picturesque Seifried Estate.
“It’s great that we can move to Seifried’s, which was the very first commercial winery in the region started by Austrian winemaker Hermann Seifried. It’s particularly fitting for this symposium as we’re focusing on some top Austrian Aromatics including Grüner Veltliner,”
There are still some tickets available for the Nelson International Aromatics Symposium 2013, including for members of the public. They can be purchased through the Nelson Wineart website www.nelsonwineart.co.nz
