Clos Henri – NZ Wine Website of the Week

Clos Henri is the exciting new vineyard development in Marlborough, New Zealand begun by the internationally recognised winemaking family of Henri Bourgeois of Sancerre, France. For ten generations the family has crafted premium quality Sauvignon blanc and Pinot noir wines and in 2000 chose 109 hectares of native Marlborough pastures to continue their passion abroad.

Clos Henri’s objective is to create unique and exceptional wines following the traditions and art of Henri Bourgeois. Clos Henri plans to unite the history of French wine making with the purity of New-World varietal character, thereby letting the family rediscover their passion for wine making, while forging a new direction in an unspoiled land.

Despite their ten-generation history of producing Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir in the Loire Valley, the Bourgeois family placed strong emphasis on researching the viticultural practices of local winegrowers. This cooperation, the Clos Henri vineyard and the wine reflect the marriage of French-New Zealand experience. The first Clos Henri wines were made in 2003 and subsequent vintages benefit from being made on the Clos Henri terroir in Marlborough New Zealand.

Clos Henri is situated in the heart of the Wairau Valley, just a quick 15 minute drive from Blenheim town centre. The Clos Henri Cellar Door is located at the centre of their expanding vineyard, in Ste. Solange, a beautifully restored local country church. To find out more about Clos Henri, click the banner abover the visit their website.
