A great evening at Vino Fino last night with Tony Bish from Sacred Hill taking us through some of his best wines – thanks to Rex and the team for the opportunity too.
Tony is a great presenter and passionate about what he does – told us some great tales of blind tastings against some of the worlds best including 6 Hawkes Bay reds vs 6 Bordeaux reds – Hb taking 4 of the top 6, and then guided us through 10 fantastic wines.
I won’t elaborate on each wine but did score them out of 20 (my opinion) RRP NZ$)
The Whites tasted in order were…
Sacred Hill Halo Pinot Gris 2009 (17/20) $24
Sacred Hill Halo Sauvignon Blanc 2009 (17.5/20) $24
Sacred Hill “Sauvage” 2008 (18/20) $37
Sacred Hill “The Wine Thief” Chardonnay 2009 (17/20) $30
Sacred Hill “Rifleman Chardonnay 2009 (sold out) (19/20) $57
The Reds tasted in order were…
Sacred Hill “Halo” Pinot Noir 2008 (16.5/20) $24
Sacred Hill “Halo” Merlot/Cab Sav/Cab Franc 2008 (17/20) $24
Sacred Hill Brokenstone Merlot 2006 (19/20) $68
Sacred Hill Brokenstone Merlot 2008 (18.5/20) $68
Sacred Hill “Deerstalker” Syrah 2008 (19/20) $52
