In 1987 Jill and Dayne Sherwood planted 20 acres of vines on their Canterbury block and Sherwood Estate Wines was born. This year they celebrate our 30th birthday and want
to share this very special milestone with everyone by releasing the Stoney Range Reserve Collection.
Over the last 30 years Sherwood Estate has grown from a small family vineyard and winery to one of the largest independent wine companies in New Zealand. Producing over 50,000 cases of wine a year they sell to over 20 different countries as well as all major grocery retailers the length and breadth of New Zealand.
Although their company has changed dramatically over the last three decades they are proud to say they are still 100% family owned and operated. To mark their 30th anniversary they want to share these wines with us all.
Each year and each new vintage allows them to learn a little more and perfect their winemaking. After 30 years of practice they think they’ve got this just right; the perfect balance of vineyard management, loving attention from the winemakers, and knowing when to just stand back and let the wine do its thing. So to celebrate they have released a collection of 4 special wines: Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from their Waipara Valley Vineyards.
Stoney Range Reserve Collection
The Stoney Range Reserve is a collection of their favourite wines. Their winemakers carefully chose select parcels of grapes from the same family owned vineyards that produce the Stoney Range wines. They gave this fruit particular care and attention in the winery and took inspiration from more traditional European winemaking techniques. This has allowed the wines to fully develop their flavours along with fruit complexity, sophistication and elegance.

Stoney Range Reserve SauvignonBlanc, Waipara Valley 2017
Pale straw gold in colour, tropical fruit and grassy nose, fresh acidity on the palate with plenty of concentrated citrus and apple / melon flavours, crisp, dry long finish! A refreshing change from Marlborough Savvy! 12.0% $22.49
Stoney Range Reserve PinotGris Waipara Valley 2017
Bright lemon gold in colour, nice legs / viscosity, pears, peach & citrus nose, quite a lush palate of rich pear & stonefruit flavours, a hint of apricot, textured with a nice long dry “front of palate” finish! Great Asian food wine. 13.0% $22.49
Stoney Range Reserve Chardonnay Waipara Valley 2016.
Bright gold in colour, medium bodied with stone fruit & caramel-toffee-brioche notes in the nose, rich, full flavoured palate of stonefruit, light oak/lees influence, fresh acidity, nicely textured & balanced #nzwine! Most enjoyable! Excellent value! 13.5% $22.49
