Just opened a bottle of this wine that I had in the cellar since tasting at the New Brighton Wine Club in Dec 2009.
An interesting sparkling Riesling from a fairly new winery from Waipara – Sirens’ Wines are made in Waipara by prize winning wine makers, Sean Houghton (Anne’s husband) and Scott Berry.
They have been producing wine now for a couple of years and part of their philosophy is fund raising and support for local and national charities. Anne Davis and Louise Wedlake are ‘mumpreneurs’ and created this business so they could bring up their children AND produce fine wines at the same time.
One of the key differences about Sirens Wines is that that they host wine and cheese nights with a portion of all profits going to charity. Recently launched is the MacKenzies’ Pardon Wine Range available October 2010. 15% of Sirens’ Wines profits from the sale of MacKenzie’s Pardon will go to the Prostate Cancer Foundation.
The Sea Spray was quite a pleasant drop with yeasty bread characters evident in the nose – crisp / spritzer qualities on the palate – a lighter style easy drinking value-for-money quaffing bubbly. We rated it 15/20 (75/100)
