Three Recent Rieslings

Three Recent Rieslings

Over the last few days I have had the pleasure of tasting some great wines including these 3 really nice New Zealand Rieslings. From different regions, all are nice examples of the variety now being produced in New Zealand.

Daisy Hill 2009 Riesling
Bright lemon gold, floral / blossom & nectarine stone fruit on the nose, lemon-lime citrus and a little honey,  warm on the palate lifted acidity, fresh finish – “Fresh as a Daisy.” Made by a long-established Marlborough wine producer for Best Wine Buys. RRP: $10.00 online or if you can fin d it in the shops grab a couple..

Ataahua Wines Waipara Riesling 2010
This is a wonderful example of a Waipara riesling made by Stephanie Henderson-Grant, and her first Riesling.  This wine was fresh with lifted floral notes and citrus in the nose, with lemon, limes and stone-fruit melded into a lovely textured palate: medium to off-dry style, with a succulent finish… I really like some of the Riesling coming out of the Waipara region now and if this is Stephanie’s first Riesling, I can’t wait to taste them in the future.. RRP. $22.00 Available online from Ataauha Wines.

Giesen Wines Marlborough Riesling 2011
The Giesen Brothers have been making Riesling for many years now and this from their Estate Range is gorgeous… floral notes and citrus in the nose with more citrus / mandarin / and sweet honey on the palate with lovely clean zingy acidity, a touch of minerality and very more-ish finish. Unfortunately according to the Giesen website this wine has sold out… RRP $17.00 Get into the supermarkets and wine stores grab & some if while it’s still around.

Cheers, JB
