Tim Adams joins Toi Toi Wines

Toi Toi Wines is pleased to announce the appointment of Tim Adams as Head Winemaker and Viticulturist.

Making the announcement Toi Toi Wines principal, Kevin Joyce, welcomed Tim to the team saying “on behalf of the family we are excited to have Tim on board as his wealth of experience in making top quality Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc and Central Otago Pinot Noir will be invaluable, particularly as we move into our next phase of rapid growth.”

Tim Adams joined the team at the beginning of June and already has been working in the winery blending wines from the 2017 vintage. He says “I am very impressed with the wine quality Toi Toi has in tank from a difficult season. It is testament to the tremendous dedication to lower cropping levels and quality improvements that the Toi Toi vineyard managers and winemaking team have adhered to over the years. Good grapes make good wines, and I will continue to work with the vineyard managers to ensure we continue to enhance Toi Toi’s quality”.

Tim Adams is based in Marlborough and has been working as a winemaker for more than a decade with Astrolabe wines. I am passionate about Marlborough grapes and Sauvignon Blanc and I know Central Otago grapes really well too says Tim, who has also made Central Otago Pinot Noir in Cromwell. Besides making wine in NZ, Tim has worked vintages in Europe, USA and Australia. When Tim is not tripping the world making and promoting wine, he enjoys NZ’s natural environment with mountain biking and cyclocross, which he is passionate about.

Tim takes over the reins from Chris Young who has been with Toi Toi from the start. After 27 years in the industry, Chris has decided to retire from winemaking and is looking forward to more time hunting and improving his golf swing! Kevin says “Chris has been invaluable to us and has been absolutely integral to our brand and our growth. Chris has produced some stunning award-winning wines over the years and he has also grown Toi Toi into one of NZ’s top 30 wineries by size. We wish him all the best in his retirement and may his handicap come down.”

Toi Toi is a family owned company and is recognised globally for its Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc and Central Otago Pinot Noir. Over the years it has developed a reputation for innovation. It was the first winery to produce a Sparkling Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc and has recently released a “pink” Sauvignon Blanc Rose, a blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir. “Our winemaking philosophy is to make NZ varieties from the regions in which they are most renown” says Kevin. “So we only make Pinot Noir from Central Otago, off our Clutha vineyard and our Chardonnay comes from our Gisborne vineyard”
