The te Pa Wines 2016 Sauvignon Blanc Oke (a single vineyard, barrique fermented Sauvignon Blanc) was awarded 92 points, and the te Pa 2017 Sauvignon Blanc and te Pa 2016 Chardonnay were both awarded 90 point scores respectively.
Wine Advocate’s Managing Editor and New Zealand wine reviewer Joe Czerwinski’s tasting notes included high praise for the te Pa wines such as; “The barrel-fermented and aged 2016 Oke Sauvignon Blanc features subtle pencil-shaving notes framing nectarine and pineapple fruit. It’s a medium-bodied wine, slightly enriched by lees contact and a creamy texture, but it remains clean and fresh through the long finish.”
Owner and proprietor of te Pa Family Vineyards, Haysley MacDonald, says the high scores are demonstrative of a focused and disciplined viticultural approach, and a winemaking programme that prioritises expression of fruit purity and quality, and a dedication to excellence in technical winemaking detail.
He adds; “Owning our vineyards means we have a high level of control and involvement throughout the growing season and particularly at harvest time. The consistent supply of quality fruit each year means that our winemakers can pursue a consistent style for our portfolio, which is of huge value for a distinctive and complex wine such as the Sauvignon Blanc Oke.”
The te Pa Sauvignon Blanc Oke is gaining a reputation as one of the family-owned producer’s most critically acclaimed wines; it has recently been named in Gourmet Traveller Wine Magazine’s Top New Releases for 2018, and well as winning the title of New Zealand’s Number One Sauvignon Blanc in the Dish Magazine Sauvignon Blanc tasting, and taking out the top score (94 points) in The Shout Magazine’s Sauvignon Blanc tastings in early 2018.
The te Pa Chardonnay is also enjoying multiple acclaimed vintages, with the inaugural 2015 vintage winning 96 points and a Gold medal at the prestigious Decanter World Wine Awards, as well as the title of Platinum Best in Category award for Best Value New Zealand Chardonnay, and the 2016 vintage took out a 90-point score and a highly commended award at Decanter’s Chardonnay tastings in late 2017.
