Two Paddocks is a small family wine producing business that is entirely dedicated to making great wine. The Proprietor, Sam Neill, wanted to produce a good Pinot Noir that would, at the very least, be enjoyed by his family and friends although in his own words “my friends will pretty much drink anything, so this didn’t seem too hard.”
They started in 1993 with modest ambitions and first planted five acres of Pinot Noir at their original little vineyard at Gibbston, Central Otago New Zealand. Their first vintage in 1997 was much better than they had hoped for and by 1999 produced what they thought, a world class Pinot Noir (which turned out to be true.)
Since then the Two Paddocks Pinot Noir has expanded with two new vineyards:the Alex Paddocks, a 7-acre vineyard on a very beautiful terrace above the Earnscleugh Valley and Redbank, a lovely 130 acre small farm nestled between two dramatic rocky escarpments.
Their range includes Two Paddocks Pinot Noir, Picnic Pinot Noir, Picnic Riesling and Picnic Sauvignon Blanc and in exceptional vintages, two single vineyard wines, Two Paddocks “The Last Chance Pinot Noir” and Two Paddocks “First Paddock Pinot Noir.”
