Peter Yealands and his team have done an outstanding job in building the Yealands brand and their portfolio of sustainable wines all of a very high quality. They consistently win awards in all competitions entered and also for their sustainability practices and innovation in using green ideas to leave as little impact on the planet as possible during production and distribution.
Glenys and I first visited Yealands’ new winery back in 2008 and were really impressed with the wines, the winery and the vineyard surrounding it, especially the landscape with little pockets of wetlands dotted throughout the 1000 or so hectares of recontoured and planted vineyards.
Last night we opened the Yealands Estate Marlborough 2008 Pinot Gris and were welcomed with almost spicy apples and pears in the nose – it has wonderful texture probably from lees stirring and just a little oak treatment, succulent fruit and really nice acid balance – quite long in the finish – a delicious tipple with our roast chook!
We rated this wine 17.5 / 20 (87.5/100)
