ABOUT COFCC AND BIOGRO
In 2016, China and New Zealand signed the Arrangement on Mutual Recognition of Organic Product Certification between National Certification and Accreditation Administration (CNCA) of China and Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) of New Zealand . This was the first intergovernmental organic product certification mutual recognition agreement signed by China with another country. In 2022, CNCA issued an announcement regarding the implementation of the China-New Zealand mutual recognition arrangement, marking its entry into the operational phase and initiating a new model for bilateral organic product trade between the two countries.
Recently, China Organic Food Certification Center(COFCC for short) reached a cooperation agreement with BioGro, New Zealand’s organic certification body. The two parties will engage in comprehensive collaboration in areas such as organic agricultural technology exchange, organic product certification, and organic product market promotion. Under this framework, COFCC has, for the first time under the China-New Zealand Organic Product Mutual Recognition Arrangement, issued a Chinese organic product certification certificate to a New Zealand organic wine certified by BioGro. This signifies the launch of COFCC’s new service area: issuing organic certificates to New Zealand organic product based on the mutual recognition arrangement.
This cooperation will lay a solid foundation for organic agriculture and organic product communication between the two countries. It will also effectively streamline the procedure for New Zealand organic product entering the Chinese market, helping to better meet the growing domestic demand for high-quality organic products.
