Fragrant aromas of strawberry & raspberry in the nose with a hint of savoury herb & floral notes, The palate all about the berries, juicy, crisp & dry, with a lovely acid backbone, layers of texture & mouthfeel from several months on lees. Church Road ‘Gwen’ Pinot Gris 2020, Hawke’s Bay NZ
Second in the Gwen range of wines – Shiny pale lemon-gold in colour, medium bodied. Aromas of spiced pears, sweet apple, & stone-fruit fill the nose, fresh. The fruit aromas are reflected on the palate with pear & stone-fruit predominant, subtle ginger spice, a softer acidity, a creamy textured mouthfeel & a long mouth-watering finish make this a very tasty & elegant wine. Highly recommended. RRP:$25.00

Church Road ‘Gwen’ Chardonnay 2020, Hawke’s Bay NZ
A new addition to the Gwen range of wines – Clear straw to pale gold in colour lighter bodied. The nose is fragrant & very fruit focused with ripe stone-fruit & lemon citrus aromas, a mineral stony note evident too. The palate is crisp, clean & concentrated with a zesty acidity, ripe stone-fruit flavours, a subtle hint of creaminess from wild & malo ferments & time on lees. Juicy, textured fruit-driven Chablis style with a lovely complexity even sans oak. RRP:$25.00

CharRees Riesling 2015, Canterbury NZ
I managed to buy 4 vintages of this wine from Esma and Charlie Hill’s tiny family vineyard in South Canterbury before they sold it in 2020. This vintage is a bright green gold in colour lighter bodied with a lovely nose of lemon / lime citrus, honey and a whiff of kero! The palate is soft and delicate with stone-fruit & citrus flavours, a little grip – nicely integrated with a hint of lemon & honey in the finish. Lovely! 11.5% Sadly no longer available as the vineyard has been sold, but I have a 2106, 2018 & 2019 still to try.

Rocca Delle Macie, Tenuta Sant’Alfonso Chianti, Sangiovese 2018, Tuscany Italy
Translucent mid cherry coloured wine, lighter at the rim. The nose is quite fragrant with cherry, blackberry, cassis, spice & subtle oak aromas. The palate is full bodied and juicy with red & black fruit flavours, a fresh acidity, fine tannin & oak textures lead to a long warming finish. I don’t get to taste many quality Chianti but would drink this every day. A perfect red for our pasta dinner. RRP:$35.00

Lovely mouth-filling flavours & textures – a lively & delicious wee Spaniard. RRP:$23.00
