Babydoll Wines are all about celebrating life’s little moments, like being awarded a trophy at the 2020 Royal Easter Show Wine Awards, held at The Pullman Hotel in Auckland on Saturday 7th March.

Babydoll Rosé 2019 received The Production & Music Agency Award Champion Rosé, which was presented to Natalie Christensen, Winemaker for Babydoll and Chief Winemaker for Yealands Wine Group (Yealands).

The Royal Easter Show is New Zealand’s oldest wine show, designed to provide consumers with a comprehensive assessment of available New Zealand wines by style and quality. Now in its 68th year, the awards focus on celebrating excellence in New Zealand wines throughout the world.

The Rosé wines are judged in flights of twenty-five per panel and scored out of 100, with any wine scoring 95 (gold) being brought back and judged again by the panel chairs. The top three golds are then presented to the senior judges to select the trophy winner. A confirmed trophy-winning wine will have been tasted twenty-seven times over the course of the competition.

“We’re super excited to receive a trophy for our Babydoll Rosé at the Royal Easter Show Wine awards,” says Christensen. “This wine looked great in tank and is a firm favourite amongst the team. I can’t wait to see what our 2020 vintage has in store for us”.

Babydoll Wines take their name from a tiny breed of sheep originally introduced to the vineyard to keep the winery’s premium Marlborough vineyards tidy year-round, the idea being that they would be too small to reach the grapes.

Sustainable and vegan friendly, the wines are crafted to capture distinctive varietal characters and complexity. Babydoll Wines were launched in 2009 and form part of Yealands’ portfolio of premium wines. Yealands are known internationally for their environmental practices and sustainable approach to winemaking across the entire lifecycle of their wines.

Alongside the Babydoll trophy, Yealands received five gold medals for Yealands Riesling 2019, Yealands Estate Land Made Pinot Gris 2019, Yealands Estate Single Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc 2019, Yealands Reserve Sauvignon Blanc 2019 and Yealands Rosé 2019.

Babydoll Rosé is available nationwide from most major supermarkets and independent liquor retailers with a recommended retail price of $16.99.
