Escarpment Vineyard Vintage Camp 2015

Entries to the Escarpment Vineyard Vintage Camp are now open for the 2015 year. This competition is open to aspiring hospitality sector professionals who wish to expand their knowledge of wine and how it’s made.

“The wine industry needs to get behind ambitious hospitality sector professionals to encourage a greater understanding of wine production,” says Escarpment Director Larry McKenna. “For too long, many food menus and wine lists have not related to each other. With a greater understanding of how wine is made, its complexities, challenges and subtilizes we can expect more imaginative exciting wine & food menus.”

The winner of last year’s competition was “Jarred Svedlund, from the French Cafe in Auckland.” He had the pleasure to experience first-hand “a week in the life of a working winery during the most stimulating time of the year when grapes are harvested and wines are created”. He will be traveling back for Toast Martinborough and to help Escarpment with initial blending options from barrel samples of the 2014 vintage he helped to shape.

This is a unique opportunity to be part of the Escarpment wine making team over a 7-10 day period during the crucial month of April 2015. With the ability to experience all aspects of the Escarpment Vineyard harvest including grape sampling and testing, harvesting, fruit processing, fermentation, pressing and barrelling. The winner will also be an integral part of the vintage team enjoying full on days, great food and wine evenings, with the company of an enthusiastic team of dedicated vintage experts who normally handle the harvest.

The competition is now open and Escarpment Vineyard are now accepting entry submissions via their website https://escarpment.co.nz/

Entries close on 31st December 2014, and the winner will be announced to the public on 14th January 2015.

“This is an exciting initiative which all bourgeoning sommeliers, chefs and maître de should explore,” says Larry McKenna of Escarpment Vineyard.
