For the first time ever in New Zealand wine tourism history, Cromwell Winery Cruises have recently launched a new wine tourism venture – visiting three Central Otago wineries on a scenic boat cruise. How cool is that?
You can now experience a ‘Winery Cruise’ in a pontoon-style boat with spacious seating, comfy loungers & good tunes… This combined with being out on the water is what makes this new experience stand out from other winery tours.
ABOUT CROMWELL WINERY CRUISES
Cromwell Winery Cruises was created through the operator Sam’s love for the water and for Central Otago. Having met his wife in Central, they moved to Wellington for work (to drive the Inter-islander ferries).
They longed to return, planning holidays back to Cromwell every year. Sam has always loved the water, working in various roles since age 14, always on the water.
The idea for Cromwell Winery Cruises seemed to be the perfect opportunity to combine Sam’s love for Cromwell with his love for the water.
The stars lined up, and with his employer offering a generous voluntary redundancy scheme, He decided to take the leap and follow his dream.
Cromwell Winery Cruises was founded on the idea of creating a space to connect with your friends and family in a more meaningful way, and connecting with the land and water that the wines we love come from.
The style of boat is built for socialising, enjoy lounging on the couches and soaking up the views, and visiting the three wineries.

New Zealand’s First And Only Winery Cruise
Whether you’re celebrating with a memorable birthday outing or simply treating yourself, this is a one-of-a-kind experience you won’t find anywhere else.
Your day includes visits to three standout Central Otago wineries: Matt Connell Wines, Carrick, and Cloudy Bay’s “The Shed”
It’s a guided experience with relaxed, informative commentary throughout the day, with three scenic cruises, one between each venue including complimentary tastings at Matt Connell Wines.
Complimentary pick-up and drop-off from your accommodation within the Cromwell area — anywhere from Bannockburn to Pisa Moorings.
If you’d like to keep the day going, you can also choose to be dropped off at a fourth venue in town instead of returning to your accommodation. Penny Black in Cromwell’s historic old town, is a popular cocktail bar and a great way to round out the experience.
Tours are 6 – 7 hrs long (9:30-10:00am to 4:00-4:30pm) and all guests must be 18 years or older.
The tour is designed for comfort. They will take 10 people for mixed groups and can take up to 11 for private groups.

Matt Connell Wines develop wines that are different by design and showcase special growers, sites and stories and exude richness of flavour, complexity, and balance. Locally owned and operated they give a great feel for Central Otago wines.

Carrick – The Second Stop
Carrick offers a stunning outlook over the Bannockburn inlet. Choose from Estate, Limited Release, and Library Tastings, guided by their knowledgeable team, or enjoy a self-guided tasting flight at your own pace. Decide between delicious gourmet pizza or something from the chefs in the restaurant.

Cloudy Bay – The Third Stop
Cromwell is home to Cloudy Bay’s Central Otago Pinot Noir. On offer is the full Cloudy Bay wine portfolio for tasting. Tasting experiences, these must be booked in advance, however light snacks and drinks are available anytime. Cloudy Bay is a name many of our local and international guests will recognise.
