As a Central Otago producer situated on the prestigious Felton Road, Te Kano stands tall in their pursuit of excellence. With an ethos rooted in sharing culture, spirit, and beauty through wine, the arts and architecture, Te Kano’s vision extends far beyond the horizon to a legacy beyond compare.
Rhonda Lloyd, a Californian who fell in love with a New Zealander and his country, embarked on a love affair with Central Otago’s wines during their visits. The acquisition of exceptional vineyard land presented an opportune moment that they simply couldn’t overlook.
Their love story continued as they planted three vineyards, each cultivating varietals specific to their site. Te Kano, translating to “seed” in M?ori, mirrors the love Winemaker Dave Sutton instils in hearts and cellars through his remarkable range of wines.
Te Kano have a trinity of vinous offerings: The Land, The Life, and The Kin Series. The Land Series pays homage to the soils of Bannockburn, Northburn, and Waitaki, crafting limited quantities that encapsulate each site’s unique terroir and the nuances of the season.
In contrast, the Kin Series radiates vibrancy, intended to enrich gatherings of kin and friends. The Life Series brings together parcels from diverse vineyards, reflecting Central Otago’s distinctive way of life. Each bottle, another exciting chapter of the Te Kano story.
Te Kano has started a new era for their Northburn site, to undo some of the harms done by previous occupants. their goal is to leave a different sort of footprint, with a restorative and regenerative approach to agriculture and a focus on leaving the land better than they found it.
