Time to Celebrate Marlborough Wines
After a year no one will ever forget, Wine Marlborough is about to celebrate the industry with entries opening next week for The 2020 Marlborough Wine Show, sponsored by QuayConnect.
The largest regional wine show in the country will highlight all Marlborough’s styles from Sauvignon Blanc to Pinot Noir, Rosé to Pinot Gris and Chardonnay to Gewurztraminer, with special emphasis on sub regional diversity.
Two special awards are also up for grabs; The Coterie Provenance Award for the best single vineyard current release wine and The Marlborough Museum Legacy Award for the company with the highest scores for three vintages of the same variety over a 10-year period.
Competition Director, Marcus Pickens, says 2020 has not been an easy year for anyone involved in the industry and The Marlborough Wine Show is a perfect opportunity to celebrate coming through one of the most trying vintages to date.
“We are proud of how the industry reacted to the Covid-19 pandemic and we now are keen to celebrate the wines that resulted from that period. We are prepared to operate and deliver the wine judging competition safely under Alert Level 2 guidelines should they still exist at that time.”
Local winemaker Ben Glover will lead the team of judges as Chief Judge, for the 2020 competition, with this year’s guest judge being New Zealand Master of Wine, Emma Jenkins. “We are fortunate to be able to invite a New Zealand judge with extensive international experience and to have a strong panel of local judges returning for the 2020 show.” Mr. Pickens says.
In deference to the current economic situation, he says all companies that enter will this year receive one free entry.
Entries for The Marlborough Wine Show, sponsored by Quay Connect open on Monday August 31 and close September 18. Judging will begin on October 14 at the Marlborough Convention Centre with the trophies to be announced at a celebration lunch on October 30.
