Crystal clear, pretty pale copper-pink in colour, with light oily legs. In the nose, fragrant aromas of ripe stone-fruit, summer berries & cherries then a hint of fresh citrus. Quite a concentrated palate with juicy, ripe apple & berry fruit flavours, a crisp acidity & a subtle mineral note then a mouth-watering residual fruit sweetness. Equilibrium Makers ‘Lunika’ Chardonnay 2023, Te Muna, Martinborough NZ
Bright, glossy gold in colour with subtle green hues, lovely oily viscosity. In the nose, intense aromas of smoke, stone-fruit, butterscotch & nutty, toasty oak. A lovely weight & creamy mouthfeel on the palate, flavours of baked apple, peach & citrus, it’s complex & layered with a fresh acidity & lightly malo butter & barrel spice influences. Esses Wine ‘Grande Dame Syme’ Méthode Traditionelle 2014, Kaikoura NZ
Glossy clear mid gold in colour, fine but short-lived mousse / bubbles on pouring. In the nose, aromas of lemon citrus, buttered popcorn, roasted nuts & subtle lees notes. On the palate, flavours of baked apple & dried peach / apricot, a crisp zesty lemon acidity, & subtle savoury, salty, earth notes. There’s just a little fizz / effervescence left, medium length bone-dry fruity finish. Bottled March 2015, disgorged May 2025, 10 years plus on lees. Bottle No.131 of 170 produced. Only 80 available on the Esses website. VERY RARE.

A medium weighted palate has flavours of juicy lemon / lime citrus & ripe stone-fruit, a tangy acidity is balanced with a fine creamy, leesy mouthfeel, the finish is long complex, textured and just off-dry. 63% Chardonnay & 37% Pinot Noir. Deep ruby to purple in colour, lighter at the rim. The nose has a savoury, earthy note at first then aromas of ripe Black Doris plums, dark cherries & summer berries, subtle spice & oak notes. On the palate, there’s sweet plum, cherry & berry flavours, nice touches of savoury earth & oak / spice. A medium acidity & silky tannins all well integrated, long dry finish. Nockie’s Palette Pinot Noir 2019, Central Otago NZ
Semi translucent, dark ruby in colour, lighter at the rim, showing a little age, The nose is savoury & herbal / dried flowers, aromas of dark cherries & plums, a hint of earth, barrel spice, pepper. A weighty, powerful palate with ripe plum, cherry & berry flavours, silky tannins & a slightly grippy acidity. 11 months in oak age has added depth & complexity, a very textural, dry and persistent finish – Excellent!

Shiny, pretty mid salmon pink in colour with pale orange hues. The nose is aromatic & fruity, fresh cherry, strawberry, crisp apple & spice / smoker lollies! A fresh & juicy palate has flavours of red summer berries & ripe cherries, there’s a crisp acid line & fine tannins, nice grip & concentration, & a long dry finish. Excellent – previously tasted the 2017 & 2018 vintages this is excellent too.

Clear pale green-gold in colour, nice creamy mousse, medium bubbles / bead. In the nose, fragrant aromas of lemon, citrus blossom, ripe peach, green apple & seashells. On the palate it’s crisp & fresh with a zesty acidity, nice sweet peach & tart lemon flavours delivered with a gentle spritz on the tongue, a nice touch of sweetness / RS but finishes off dry & crisp! On the palate, there’s lots of concentrated fruit flavours, cherry, plum & dark berries, baking spices, silky tannins, a fresh acidity & subtle oak influence all in harmony.
