Our Australian friends are all invited to experience the world of Central Otago wines as Pure Pours: Central Otago Wine Festival arrives in Sydney, Brisbane, and Melbourne later this month.
Seventeen of Central Otago’s leading wineries will make a special trip across the Tasman, pouring more than 80 wines and sharing the stories, landscapes, and passion that define New Zealand’s most southerly wine region.

Each city will play host to a vibrant roaming tasting festival where guests can sip, swirl, and compare drops from across the region. Bright aromatic whites, textured Chardonnays, méthode traditionnelle sparklings, and of course, bold, perfumed Pinot Noirs will be showcased. Alongside the wines, expect delicious snacks, music, and a lively, immersive tasting experience.
“Bringing our wines to Australia gives us the chance to connect directly with wine lovers,” says Carolyn Murray, General Manager of the Central Otago Winegrowers Association. “It’s about sharing the people, places, and passion that define Central Otago as much as the wines themselves.”
Meet the Makers Behind the Pours
A ticket unlocks the chance to meet the people behind the labels, hear their stories, and discover what makes each winery unique:
- Chat with the Quartz Reef team, still hand-riddling and disgorging every bottle of their acclaimed méthode traditionnelle sparkling.
- Hear how the Mills family at Rippon has farmed their Lake W?naka estate for more than a century.
- Learn the story behind Nanny Goat Vineyard, named for the wild goats of Central Otago’s rugged terrain.
One might even share a glass with larger-than-life viticulturist James Dicey, poetic winemaker Paul Pujol of Prophet’s Rock, or biodynamic pioneer Claire Mulholland of Burn Cottage.
