PPI appoints Ingoldby Mackenzie for Australia and New Zealand

New partnership connects premium wineries with specialist, on-the-ground market expertise in India. Provenance Partners India (PPI) has appointed Ingoldby Mackenzie as its Overseas Business Development & Market Access Consultant – Australia & New Zealand.

Ingoldby Mackenzie will identify fine-wine producers suited to India, while PPI provides the market expertise, local relationships and long-term brand custodianship needed to establish them there.

India is emerging as an exciting growth market for fine wine. Australia’s trade agreement is already lowering barriers for producers, with New Zealand set to follow when its recently signed agreement enters into force. At the same time, rising affluence and growing interest in distinguished international wines are creating new opportunities.

This partnership brings together established winery relationships in Australia and New Zealand with an experienced team on the ground in India, giving selected producers the professional support to enter the market with confidence and build a lasting brand.

“This partnership combines Ingoldby Mackenzie’s wine-industry relationships with the disciplined, long-term custodianship model PPI has built for India,” PPI Founder Niladri Dhar said. “Premium producers need patience, local knowledge and a clear focus on protecting what they have built.”

“India is an exciting long-term opportunity, but it cannot be approached as a simple export transaction,” Fraser Mackenzie said. “Together, we can give selected wineries a considered and accountable path into the market.”

Mr Dhar has more than two decades of experience across wine importing, distribution, luxury hospitality and market intelligence, including as Wine Specialist and Quality Controller with New Zealand-based Wine-Searcher. He holds the WSET Level 4 Diploma, is a Certified Sommelier and trained in winemaking and viticulture in Gisborne.

Mr Mackenzie combines deep wine-industry knowledge with an international commercial perspective and established relationships across the Australian and New Zealand wine trade. He holds the WSET Level 4 Diploma and an MBA from D?cere Global Business School.

To protect the depth and exclusivity of PPI’s custodianship model, the partnership will select no more than eight fine-wine producers from Australia and New Zealand each year. Each place is reserved for a winery with the quality, ambition and long-term vision to build a distinctive presence in India.

Mr Mackenzie will attend the New Zealand Wine Business Forum in Wellington on 27 August before travelling to the Barossa on 28 August for two weeks of meetings with Australian producers and industry leaders. Wineries interested in securing one of these limited places are invited to contact him for an initial, confidential conversation.
