Begun in 2018 by Organic Winegrowers NZ, Organic Wine Week has stayed true to its purpose of highlighting the quality and environmental benefits of organic wine production. It’s an opportunity for both wine enthusiasts and industry professionals to explore the unique flavours, great depth and authentic stories behind organic wines and to support wineries that prioritise organic and biodynamic farming methods.

Organic Wine Week (OWW) is set to take place 21–27 September 2026 – marking the ninth year of festivities. It’s the perfect time to swirl, smell and sip the stunning array of organic wine from Aotearoa New Zealand. Featuring pop-up tastings, wine-list takeovers, winemaker dinners, retail promotions and more, the week opens a window into the vibrant world of organic wine.

OWW coincides with the spring equinox on 23 September, a significant date for growers around the motu – marking the astronomical start of spring and the tipping point where days become longer than nights in the Southern Hemisphere. People are waking up after winter and ready to discover and celebrate the new vintage wines.

“Increasingly consumers are seeking out organic wine,” says OWNZ chair Nick Paulin. “Organic wine consumption is growing, defying the global trend of declining wine consumption. A new generation of consumers is emerging – people who are increasingly more environmentally conscious, who demand transparency and integrity. They are searching for wines that tell a true story – wines that
come from producers who care for the environment in which they grow their grapes by not using synthetic products, and embracing techniques in their context that work with nature and not against it.”

The most highly anticipated event in the OWW calendar is Down to Earth, a special walk-around tasting event where attendees indulge in the largest and finest selection of organic wines from Aotearoa New Zealand, while connecting with the passionate producers who pour them.
