Entries Open for Aotearoa Wine Competition

Aotearoa Wine Competition, presented by The George Hotel – We’re looking forward to again showcasing the country’s best wines at this year’s New Zealand Agricultural Show.

Aotearoa Regional Wine Competition

The George Hotel in Christchurch is again sponsoring the Aotearoa Regional Wine Competition with the winning wines being featured at The Show’s highly popular Food & Wine Pavilion, visible to our 2500 members and approximately 100,000 visitors.

Now in its 20th year, the competition promotes our wine industry, matching consumers with the best wines commercially available, and highlights the viticulture industry, both nationally and internationally. All wine varieties are accepted, including non-aromatic varieties and organic wines. We encourage international entries, particularly those wines that illustrate emerging varieties in New Zealand.

This year sees the continuation of the Regional Champions Competition, which is open to all New Zealand wines produced with at least 85% of grapes, from a single New Zealand region.

Wines will be judged on September 17-18 at The George under the internationally recognized 100-point system. Wines assessed at 95 points or more will receive a gold medal, 90 to 94 points will be awarded silver and 85 to 89 points a bronze.

Winners of the wine competition will also be awarded a prize pack including a VIP package at The New Zealand Agricultural Show and a voucher for a Premium Executive room and breakfast for two at The George Hotel. The overall champion wine will be displayed in the foyer of The George for one month after the competition.

Entry forms and further details about the competition can be found on our website https://wine.theshow.co.nz
