The Hawke’s Bay Wine Auction has unveiled an original copper sculpture by acclaimed Napier artist Glen Colechin as one of the headline lots for its 2026 event. Created exclusively for the auction, Perpetual Harvest is the first sculptural artwork to feature since 2018 and will go under the hammer on Saturday 12 September, with every dollar raised supporting Cranford Hospice.

Officially revealed at Mangapapa Hotel on Tuesday evening, the 1.6-metre-tall work celebrates Hawke’s Bay’s fertile landscapes, celebrated vineyards and remarkable spirit of generosity. Designed with exceptional versatility, it can be displayed as a wall-mounted artwork, suspended sculpture, freestanding centre-piece or striking water feature, making it equally suited to private collections, wineries, restaurants, cafés and commercial spaces.
Drawing on the classical symbol of the Cornucopia, Colechin has reimagined it in enduring copper to represent a harvest that never ends – reflecting both Hawke’s Bay’s rich viticultural heritage and the generosity of a community that continues to support Cranford Hospice through the Hawke’s Bay Wine Auction.
Layers of polished copper emerge through a rich verdigris patina, creating a work that feels both timeless and evolving. Colechin said creating Perpetual Harvest gave him the opportunity to celebrate everything that makes Hawke’s Bay special while contributing to a cause close to the hearts of many locals.
“Hawke’s Bay is a region built on abundance – its vineyards, orchards, people and community spirit. I wanted to create something that reflected those qualities while symbolising generosity that continues long after harvest has ended.
“Supporting Cranford Hospice through this work makes it even more meaningful. Like the care they provide, I hope this sculpture becomes something lasting that people connect with for many years to come.”
Hawke’s Bay Wine Auction General Manager Samantha Kershaw said the sculpture was unlike any artwork previously featured at the auction. “Glen has created something that’s not only visually stunning but incredibly versatile. Whether it’s displayed in a private home or garden, a winery, restaurant or commercial space, Perpetual Harvest has been designed to work beautifully in a wide range of settings, which makes it especially exciting from an auction perspective.

Alongside 39 exceptional wine lots donated by Hawke’s Bay’s leading wineries, Perpetual Harvest will be auctioned on Saturday 12 September.
Every dollar raised through the Hawke’s Bay Wine Auction supports Cranford Hospice, helping ensure specialist palliative care remains available free of charge to patients and their families throughout Hawke’s Bay.
