Exclusive to New World nations, the Global Fine Wine Challenge is accessible by invitation only and is restricted to the top 120 wines of each country competing – Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa and the USA. The very best selections across 22 classes are made by country representatives in light of their intimate knowledge of their own nation’s wines.
Lake Chalice is honored to be representing New Zealand alongside the other top producers and to be asked to enter is an achievement in itself. To be awarded not only the Champion Chardonnay Trophy but also White Wine of show has been something very special for Lake Chalice winemaker Chloe Gabrielsen and the team.
Plume Chardonnay 2020
Creating this special release Chardonnay is less work, more play. Aromatic notes of popcorn, roasted hazelnuts and spice are followed through on the palate along with a subtle flinty character. Silky and luscious with a fine acid drive and good length. the fruit for this wine was sourced exclusively from a single vineyard in the Lower Waihopai Valley, Marlborough. This vineyard is meticulously looked after by Peter and Anne Reed, who also provide the grapes for the Raptor Chardonnay.
Lake Chalice have also been awarded Double Gold medals for our 2022 Falcon Sauvignon Blanc and 2022 Falcon Rosé which was also awarded Runner Up to the Champion Rosé. To be invited to enter this competition is an honour in itself, but to take home these accolades is an outstanding achievement for the entire team.
The Falcon Sauvignon Blanc 2023 – 6 Pack
Sourced from Marlborough’s Lower Wairau Valley, the grapes for this wine were picked in peak condition, before cool fermentation to retain freshness and elegance. The Falcon Sauvignon Blanc is made to showcase our Talon vineyard.
The Falcon Rosé 2022 – 6 Pack
This Marlborough Rosé is rich in contradictions. The aroma is like being in a patisserie, surrounded by the smell of freshly baked pastries filled with peaches and nectarines.
About Lake Chalice Wines
Lake Chalice Wines is one of the few remaining privately and locally owned wine companies in New Zealand. Proudly owned by the Ibbotson family and located in the country’s premier wine-growing region Marlborough the winery prides itself in exceptional quality from grape to glass.
To ensure the diverse microclimates and terroir of the Marlborough valley are translated into all of their wines, winemaker Chloe Gabrielsen takes a boutique approach, independently fermenting unique parcels of fruit from single vineyards. This combined with the biodiversity of their three unique vineyard sites, is the formula that retains the quality and reputation of Lake Chalice Wines globally.
Look for the Lake Chalice Wines’ distinctive mark of excellence on all of their labels – the endemic New Zealand Falcon or “K?rearea” are proud supporters of the Marlborough Falcon Conservation Trust.
