Greystone Chardonnay comes out on top at Aotearoa Organic Wine Awards – Greystone’s 2021 Organic Chardonnay is proving it’s a force to be reckoned with following another major award.
It’s been recognized as the best organic wine in the country at the Aotearoa Organic Wine Awards with the ‘Riedel Wine of the Show’ accolade as well as the ‘Champion Chardonnay’ title.

Winemaker Dom Maxwell says adding another award to the wine’s already impressive accolade list is a great feeling.
“Our 2021 Chardonnay has been recognised both here and around the world as first class. For it to get so much recognition before it’s even been launched properly is really exciting.”
The award comes just a week after the Chardonnay received a mammoth three trophies at the International Wine Challenge (IWC): New Zealand White Trophy, New Zealand Chardonnay Trophy and the Canterbury Chardonnay Trophy.
“Two major awards in a row is pretty crazy, we’ve never had a Chardonnay receive this much recognition before. This is a whole new level for us and we’re loving it.
“It shows that an organic approach to winemaking can still produce an amazing product.” Dom says the flurry of esteemed honours is a credit to the hardworking team. “A lot of hours and long days get put into making a brilliant wine, so to get this much acknowledgement for all our hard work is really rewarding.
“It’s been in the bottle for 15 months now, we can’t wait for people to try it. It’s a lovely classical Chardonnay and it’s got a lot of attention over the past couple of weeks, so people will be excited to give it a taste.”

The Chardonnay is currently only available to Greystone Wine Club Members and will be available for the public to purchase mid-June.
