Tickets are now on sale for Undercurrent 2027, held in Queenstown from 1 to 3 June 2027. Undercurrent is the next evolution of a national gathering for everyone interested in the future of organic, regenerative and biodynamic winegrowing, from experienced practitioners to those beginning to explore a different way of farming.
Previously known as the Organic & Biodynamic Winegrowing Conference, it marks the next chapter for an event that has brought together growers, winemakers, researchers, consultants and industry thought leaders since 2015. After five successful conferences in Marlborough, it heads south for the first time to Central Otago.
Undercurrent is the quiet force beneath a changing landscape.
It is the network of knowledge, curiosity and conviction, moving between growers, vineyards and regions. Like mycelium beneath the soil, it is often unseen, but it connects, carries and strengthens what grows above it.
Organic, regenerative and biodynamic winegrowing in New Zealand has developed through this kind of exchange: one grower trying something, another sharing what they have learned, an idea taking root and traveling further. Over time, those small but meaningful shifts gather force. They begin to change not only individual vineyards, but the way an entire industry thinks about farming.
“Central Otago is a fitting place for Undercurrent’s next chapter. The region has the highest proportion of organic vineyards in New Zealand and is a hub for organic information sharing. This conference also has always been about the wider community of growers, thinkers and practitioners working across the country,” says Undercurrent 2027 Chair Anika Willner.
Undercurrent is a place for that energy to meet, for people to learn, to ask better questions and help the next phase of this movement take root.
Held at the Queenstown Memorial Centre, the three-day conference will retain the technical substance and collegiality the event is known for, with thoughtful refinements for 2027. The programme is shaped around three themes: inform, inspire and integrate.
Expect a dynamic line-up of leading thinkers, passionate practitioners and cutting-edge scientific insight from Aotearoa and the world. From New York, winemaker and educator Adam Huss of Beyond Organic Wine is confirmed as MC and panelist, while regenerative organic vigneron Alice Anderson of Âmevive Wine will join the programme as a keynote speaker. Further speakers will be announced in the coming months.
Alongside the conference programme, delegates are invited to an organic wine party at Sherwood and a twilight scenic cruise across Lake Wakatipu to Walter Peak High Country Farm.
Undercurrent 2027 brings together the people helping shape a more resilient, connected and considered future for winegrowing in Aotearoa.

Organic Winegrowers New Zealand (OWNZ) is a grower-led organisation championing organic winegrowing.
