McArthur Ridge takes triple honours at New Zealand’s most prestigious wine competition.
It was an event to remember for Alexandra based wine company McArthur Ridge, who took home two prestigious trophies at the New Zealand International Wine Show this week. In addition, its wine maker Matt Connell was named Champion Wine Maker of the Show, testament to his unrivalled expertise and craftsmanship.
McArthur Ridge won the trophy for Champion Pinot Noir for its McArthur Ridge Southern Tor Alexandra Pinot Noir 2020 alongside the trophy for Champion Rose with the McArthur Ridge Lilico Alexandra Pinot Noir Rose 2021.
Shareholder Jason Dellaca says the wins, particularly for Pinot Noir, are exceptionally rewarding. “We are extremely proud of these accolades, especially as Pinot Noir is one of the largest and most contested categories at the awards. We were up against some very impressive competition,” he says. “The awards are also further evidence of the successful partnership between McArthur Ridge and wine maker Matt Connell. We were delighted to see Matt awarded Wine Maker of the Show – it was a well-deserved win.”
This is not McArthur Ridge’s first taste of success. The winery recently won Champion Pinot Noir at the New World Wine Awards with its sister wine Brassknocker Central Otago Pinot Noir 2020.
“This continued success reflects the hard work done by many, and our unwavering belief in the great potential of our vineyard in Alexandra,” says McArthur Ridge viticulturist Murray Petrie. “The team on the vineyard, Matt Connell in the winery and all our shareholders have committed an immense amount of time, effort and resource to this project.”
Jason says the awards also reinforce McArthur Ridge’s ongoing commitment to developing only exceptional wine. “This is an exciting time for us, as we further our aspirations of building a global brand. The wins at the NZIWS take us several more steps towards that goal.”
The McArthur Ridge Southern Tor Pinot Noir 2020 is available from today and McArthur Ridge Lilico Pinot Noir Rose 2021 from early April at
