Speaker Bios

Tracy Atkin – Women in Business Breakfast MC

Tracy Atkin – Chartered Accountant, Business Advisor and Director at ‘The Wine Trellis’.
Tracy is a Chartered Accountant with a background in both the wine industry and investment, who has also trained in Grape-growing and Winemaking. Her wine industry experience includes sustainability, research, finance and management. Tracy currently works with start-ups, investing in early-stage companies and providing business advisory services to help them commercialise their innovation, grow and scale offshore.

She is a Business Mentor and is also a Director and Board Chair, helping provide strategic direction, commercialisation assistance and capital raising advice to a range of companies through governance. She led the establishment of NZ’s national grape and wine research institute, the Bragato Research Institute (BRI), and led the design and build of the award-winning Bragato Research Winery. Built to 5-star sustainability standards, this reflected her passion for sustainability.

She also initiated BRI’s first climate change research program for the NZ wine industry, and has co-founded a charity to support RSE workers in the NZ Wine industry. Her passion is to use her business, commercialisation and capital raising skills to make a difference to the wine industry, with a focus on all pillars of ESG – environmental, social and governance strategy.

Anne Escale – Panelist

Anne Escale – NZ General Manager, Edmond de Rothschild Heritage, Rimapere & Akarua single estates

Anne was born in the Rhône Valley, from wine & food enthusiast parents. Having graduated as Master in Viticulture, Vinification and Vineyard Management from the National School of Agricultural Engineering in Bordeaux; her passion for wine led her to settle in Languedoc Roussillon for 10 years, as a viticulturist consultant for premium wine estates.

In 2007, she moved with her young family to New-Zealand, where they all fell in love with the Kiwi way of life. For 12 years, she has been the viticulturist of the very challenging vineyard Ara in Marlborough.

In 2019, she joined Edmond de Rothschild Heritage NZ to focus on what she considers the most important aspect of her GM role: excellence in wine and management, as well as a respect for the culture and the land.

The mission started with Rimapere in Marlborough before expanding in Central Otago with the acquisition of Akarua.

Dr Samantha Scarratt – Women in Business Breakfast Speaker

Dr Samantha Scarratt – Director AWITC and Senior Consultant, Wine Network Consulting

Dr Samantha Scarratt – Director AWITC and Senior Consultant, Wine Network Consulting – Dr Samantha Scarratt is a highly respected expert in Australian and New Zealand viticulture, holding a PhD in Vineyard Ecology from Lincoln University. In her current role as a Senior Consultant for Wine Network Consulting, Samantha works with wine businesses on a range of projects across Australia and New Zealand.

Her extensive experience includes roles as Accolade’s Director of grape supply across Australia and New Zealand, as well as various positions at Wither Hills (Lion) in Marlborough, ranging from technical viticulture and vineyard management to leading the viticultural department. Samantha’s research focuses on sustainable winegrowing practices, and she actively contributes to the Australian Wine industry through her involvement in the Research Advisory Committee for Australian Grape & Wine, the Wine Industry Mentor program, and as a regular speaker at industry events.

As a Director of the Australian Society of Viticulture and Oenology (ASVO) and the Australian Wine Industry Technical Conference (AWITC), Samantha plays a key role in shaping the future of the Australian wine industry.

Eva Pemper – Women in Business Breakfast Speaker


Eva Pemper – Winemaker and Co-founder, Eva Pemper Wines

Winemaker Eva Pemper is Croatian with a family history of making wine in Croatia. She lives in New Zealand where she is continuing her family winemaking legacy and telling her story through her wines. Eva makes premium wines in the stunning wine region of Marlborough on the South Island of New Zealand.

Eva came to New Zealand in 2012 after completing her Masters Degree in Winemaking and Viticulture at Agriculture University in Zagreb. After working a few years in different wineries around Marlborough and also completing a Graduate Diploma in Oenology at EIT in Hawke’s Bay, Eva had an opportunity to start her own wine label in 2019 – Eva Pemper Wines.

Now, Eva Pemper wines are present in 7 international markets and growing. She has also recently won 2 prestigious international wine awards – one for her Sauvignon Blanc and one for her Pinot Noir.
